COISTE OILIUNA SCHOOLS GO GAMES BLITZES
Coiste Oiliuna are currently running a school blitz programme for primary schools around the county.
The Blitzes are being run by the GDA's and every Blitz is being greeted with much praise by both children and teachers alike. The idea is to get chidlren out playing, regardless of ability. Schools are bringing classes rather than select students and so some players are experiencing their first taste of gaelic football. The age groups targeted are 2nd, 3rd and 4th class and it is envisaged that many more Blitzes will be held in both hurling and football in 2011.
CORK LOCAL SPORTS PARTNERSHIP BACKING FOR 2010 BLITZES
The format is about to be dramatically enhanced with the help of the CORK SPORTS PARTNERSHIP. The Sports body has kindly agreed to support the Blitz initiative and in conjunction with Coiste Oiliuna and Sciath na Scol, we will be offering playing equipment to schools who take part in a minimum of 3 Blitzes. These are exciting times for games development in Cork and this is just one area that is seeing the benefits of having more full time Games Development Administrators working at grassroots level.
