Hurling Development Squads & Schools of Excellence

2010 has seen a large increase in activity Hurling Development Squads and Schools of Excellence. Players were brought together for trials as early as February and the work done by players and management since has been a credit to all involved. Players have had fitness and skill tests in March and they will be tested again later this year to monitor their progress. There has also been a training timetable made out which outlines what skills are the core skills of the session in question. Players also played numerious inter-county matches during the year to help them progress.
The various tournaments for the squads were run over the weekend of the 28th of August.
The U14s took 2 squads to Waterford, where they lost the semi final of the Tony Forrestial with one of the squads and won the Sonny Walsh.
The u15 squad won their tournament, beating a strong tipperary side in the final.
The u16s won the plate competition in a highly competitive tournament.
The u17s won the Eugene Carey Tournament in Mallow.
The results of these tournaments were very promising for the future, but everybody involved realises that winning underage matches guarantees you nothing at minor level. With this in mind the squads will continue to get together between now and Christmas to try and improve all aspects of their game as well as other players from around the county being looked at to see if they would add to the squad in question. We are lucky enough to have Mark McManus involved with us and his role will be more pronounced between now and the end of the year.
For any coach wishing to see a session take place, they are welcome and they will be advertised on this site and local papers.
